Fist of the North Star 1995 Martial Arts Scenes

Fist of the North Star (1995) Poster

Really unimaginative and inexpensive feeling

In the future the world has get a waste product land later on the apocalypse. The populated territory is now under the rule of the martial arts clan of the Southern Cross, led by Lord Shin. When the Master of the North Star is murdered the billy is passed and the new master has very personal issues with Shin. When he passes through a small terrorised village he comes to their aid and sets up a confrontation with Shin.

Fifty-fifty though I had read bad reviews almost this film, I still had reasonable hopes for it, using the logic that I was prepared for a dumb martial arts movie. However some bothered me about the movie was that it didn't seem to live upwards to the potential that the story had. The film should have been a more imperial story near mysterious clans doing battle in the future, but instead it felt very pocket-sized and restricted. The story doesn't seem to go anywhere and lots of avenues are left unexplored.

The sets etc don't aid as they were clearly pretty cheap and just the opening shot of Malcolm McDowell sitting in his oriental house really had style or imagination – the images of apocalypse were too inexpensive to be impressive. The fight scenes are pretty boilerplate I'm pitiful to say. While Honk Kong cinema was on the edge of things, this film was back in the 1970's with its standard fights. In the anime the fights are much more impressive and the film should take tried to capture much more than of a sense of wonder. The effects are a little besides gory for my gustatory modality and don't fit with the story, considering the film lacks a sense of mysticism information technology feels ordinary – hence the problem when information technology tries to practise something that is dissimilar or weird.

The cast has some well known faces in small roles simply the lead actors aren't up to the chore of delivering good dialogue, they accept awesome bodies and can move quite well only they can't act! This takes abroad from the moving picture a great deal and stopped me getting into the characters. Daniels and Mandylor are two of the guiltiest ones simply information technology is spread through the cast of villagers, including Melvin Van Peebles. McDowell looks like he might add together grade only is a temporary narrator and faces like Penn and Howard are but of interest rather than stealing the show.

Overall this is a pretty poor movie. It lacks the majestic, epic sweep that information technology should have had and feels small-scale and cheap. The furnishings are OK but the fights really lack flair or imagination – witness people queuing up to come ane at a time and you'll understand what I mean. The poor acting, bad dialogue and basic average commitment of every function of the moving-picture show really makes this feel bad – I was in the mood for an undemanding martial arts movie to waste xc minutes and even I was disappointed by this!

Mad thought. But it nigh works...

Anyone who's read the original manga or, er, 'witnessed' the anime may question the wisdom of a alive-action remake, what with all the slightly improvident fisticuffs involved. But don't worry: it hasn't been turned into a blood-costless pacifism-fest with Kenshiro strutting around in sandals and a tweed waistcoat preaching the ways of non-violent protestation to the post-holocaust plebs. Oh no. At that place's enough of fights in hither, mate. And some of them are even quite entertaining.

In that location accept been concessions to your average action picture punter who's probably never fifty-fifty heard of the original, however. The storyline has been simplified (in the sense of at least i major character being dropped and a couple of others rolled into 1) and a more familiar Hollywood flavour given to the future wasteland scenario, so that the whole thing occasionally teeters on the brink of suddenly turning into Mad Max II. But it doesn't, and then that'due south alright. Information technology manages to stick to the basic story thread of 1 bloke existence the Fist of the North Star, another bloke existence the Primary of Southern Cross and 'the teachings' apparently dictating that the two must never fight... for a while, anyhow, and then it happily bins this ridiculous thought and gets everyone in to take a expert erstwhile-fashioned chip. So it's all pretty straightforward at the end of the day.

Straight-to-video martial arts ponce Gary Daniels does somehow expect the office as Kenshiro, and equally his Aussie twang isn't called into play too oft yous don't proceed expecting Domicile And Away's Alf Stewart to turn upwardly with chins retracted and demand that "You become out of my shop, young Ken." His nemesis, Shin, is played by some other even less famous bloke, while Reservoir Dogs' Chris Penn gets to be some other nutter and the unavoidable Malcolm McDowell fries in a deeply strenuous performance every bit a gars who gets killed in the first five minutes. Apart from that it's a bandage of nobodies. Spot the irony.

But despite offering nothing spectacular or stunningly innovative to the world, Fist isn't equally bad as it could have been. It's definitely a bit shaky all circular, yes, but the exploding heads and bursting arteries are fairly well washed and that's all any version of the story e'er had going for information technology actually, and then at least you can't mutter about the budget existence spent in all the wrong places.

Pretty good fun - an underrated anime adaptation

Warning: Spoilers

Harshly slammed past unforgiving critics on its release, FIST OF THE NORTH STAR is actually a reasonably entertaining adaptation of the popular Japanese graphic novels and anime from the 1980s, which gets past on a depression upkeep and has plenty to offer in look, sound and feel. The comic-book level of the pic works through some nicely-portrayed settings which depict a post-apocalyptic lodge. Despite such ruined, burnt-out settings existence widely familiar through such films equally the MAD MAX series and dozens of others, they make for an effective properties for the trigger-happy activeness which this moving picture offers, complementing a fast-moving activity-based story which never lets upwardly from the very beginning.

Our heroic atomic number 82 is portrayed past British-born martial artist Gary Daniels, hither performing well in a office which may be his best always – although judging past the remainder of his filmography, that's not really saying much. Daniels is fantabulous as the exiled Kenshiro, with years of difficult training having paid off to give him a sculpted, imposing physique. Not too sure why a Brit was chosen to play a Japanese human, but the gamble pays off and Daniels is ane of the best things the motion picture has to offer. Unfortunately his pretty-male child antagonist, Costas Mandylor, isn't much of an opponent and his evilness tends to be lacking at crucial points. Better attention is given to lower-list scumbags like the ubiquitous Clint Howard equally gun-toting cycle rider Stalin (who disappears halfway through the flick) and Chris Penn, who has a ball every bit the extremely weird and ambitious henchman, Jackal.

The rest of the supporting cast isn't given much of a look in (aside from an annoying Japanese teenage character who is thankfully bumped off before too long) merely there are a surprising amount of familiar faces here – Melvin Van Peebles as an old-timer, MTV presenter Downtown Julie Chocolate-brown every bit a fierce fighter, and genre pro Malcolm McDowell making 1 of his cameo appearances, a presence that e'er lifts the level of a film. The dialogue is pretty monosyllabic and hardly enlightening, but thankfully the moving picture does work on the action-orientated level at which information technology attempts – and with gusto.

For the few who don't know, the original characters of Kenshiro and Shin were blest with super-normal abilities which allowed them to hands break autonomously mere mortal opponents. Such powers here take the class of os-breaking punches and kicks, and a special move that Daniels performs which makes the heads of his opponents chimera and swell before exploding in a grisly fashion. His opponent, Shin, instead prefers to perforate the chests of his enemies past literally sticking his fingers into them, leading to much claret spray and carnage.

Yes, you guessed it, FIST OF THE Due north STAR is an exceptionally violent movie, only like the (superior) STORY OF RICKY, the violence is portrayed in a rubbery, comic-book style so it never seems shocking or agonizing. The martial arts work is great, particularly from Daniels, although the cameraman does apply bad angles sometimes which go far clear that the kicks and punches aren't connecting. This flaw is eased by some splendidly compact audio effects work to enhance the battles, and every bit a whole the kung fu doesn't disappoint. Non a bang-up movie, but non a bad ane either. Pretty skilful fun in all respects, really.

Watchable, dispensable

FIST OF THE Due north STAR

Attribute ratio: 1.85:1

Sound format: Ultra-Stereo

Low-budget Americanization of the Japanese manga 'Hokuto no Ken' - already the bailiwick of an earlier anime characteristic and TV series - in which a mystical warrior (British-built-in martial arts expert Gary Daniels) defends the survivors of an unspecified global holocaust from an evil warlord (Costas Mandylor) who intends to rebuild the planet in his own image. Photographed past A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET'southward Jacques Haitkin through layers of murk designed to conceal a multitude of budgetary deficiencies, and 'distinguished' by flashy editing and gymnastic camera-work designed to muffle the lack of a comprehensible plot, Tony Randel's unconvincing future noir trades the visionary outlook of the original graphic novel for the same lumbering, humorless approach which typified this item subgenre before US producers *finally* learned how to imitate their Asian counterparts. Though brutal in places, particularly during the final confrontation between Daniels and Mandylor, the film actually *downplays* the gory carnage of its source material, which will disappoint those expecting a more faithful adaptation.

A popular figure in this kind of DTV potboiler, Daniels was conspicuously hired for his fighting skills rather than his acting, and he'southward upstaged throughout by many of his co-stars (including Chris Penn, Melvin Van Peebles and Malcolm McDowell). Thankfully, Randel makes a virtue of Daniels' handsome face and muscular torso, and there's an unmistakable whiff of homoerotic tension in the aggressive relationship between Daniels and his equally handsome nemesis.

Just Atrocious

I deceit even bring myself to write much about this precious stone just to say information technology was just awful. Easily ane of the worst movies I have ever seen. At that place was a betoken while watching that I thought 'is this a joke? are they making fun?' simply I concluded that this was no joke. The interim was as bad as the writing and the effects were just terrible. The atomic number 82 character who could not human activity to save his life had what were supposed to be scars, they looked like condoms stuck to his body, some of which seemed to be peeling off!! How much did Malcolm McDowell need a paycheck to show upward even for the 3 minutes he was on screen? Or Chris Penn who was probably the only half way believable grapheme, fifty-fifty in the outlandish costume he was forced to wear? This film is a complete mess then I would say, unless you want to lookout man one of the worse movies ever fabricated...avoid this one.

(Hollywood Pic Version)

(Attending: Post-obit comments may contain information about any office of the story")

"Fist of the north star" was originally released in east asia (1987). A strong anime movie and shortly to come as series. This perfectionated piece of piece of work was ane of the most consummate and solid art I have ever had a chance to report. All Characters followed their own way on the same path towards a goal I call love. There was accolade, beloved, bravery and ignorance. Revenge, hunger and determination. All of them disclosed in their most pure way.

Every discussion was perfect and the result of generations of toil and thinking. That it was painted was non an obstacle only very helpful because you cannot find actors that can stand for these solid characters in real.

1995. Hollywood released a motion-picture show version of "Fist of the north star" with real actors. This movie claims that information technology is based on the anime. The existent facts are that this picture is disappointing and awakes fury and acrimony in every pure center. Many characters are changed hiding backside the original "names" and some Zealous keycharacters are even removed. At this stage of censor (which I tin can't comprehend the reasons of) , main characters are shown as cowards and violators against the Jin and jang principles which the anime is based upon. This entire violated story has go a family unit affair with jelousy, superficial se*ual desires which in this instance are confronting Asian, and even American standards.

The Scenography is bad and the actors are extremely weak. Honey is displayed as something that has come out of a baywatch story.

This flick is not recommended before the study of the original anime work.

For an ignorant person, I guess that wouldn't make any difference.

A remake is needed!

I was exciting when this came out in 1995 and saw information technology in Tokyo. This was my favorite Japanese comic at the fourth dimension. Unfortunately, this was ane of the worst adaptations I could have never imagined. Although there were a few good fight effects, information technology did non make upwards for the poor screenwriting and plot. I want to remake this picture show with a large actors, and all the characters needed. This could be like a Lord of the Rings trilogy. The comic is tight, and the story is deep. And then delight don't watch this motion picture. Read the comic and and so allow your imagination soar!!!

A Fistful of Garbage.

In a post apocalyptic world where the mullet is the hairdo of choice, Kenshirô (Gary Daniels) of the North Star schoolhouse of martial arts fights to free the people of Paradise Valley from the rule of the evil Lord Shin (Costas Mandylor), leader of the Southern Cross school.

Most films I finish in 1 sitting. Some have me two, if they're a bit tedious or extremely long. Very rarely does a movie take me iii successive evenings to complete, and when they practice, they're ordinarily the worst kind of garbage. Fist of The Northward Star is i such film.

Directed (and I employ that term loosely) by Tony Randel, who also helmed the disappointing sequel to Hellraiser, this live-action anime/manga is a terrible mess from outset to stop, with a muddled narrative, a pitiful performance from pb Gary Daniels (who has but the ane expression throughout: mildly miffed), hammy interim from the supporting cast (which includes Chris Penn, Malcolm McDowell and Clint Howard), irritating kids, and unexciting martial arts scenes.

About the but thing going for this crap is the occasional spot of graphic violence (both Kenshirô and Shin tin cause their opponents' bodies to erupt in a spray of gore) and a bit of welcome center candy for fans of Asian beauties in the grade of Julia (Isako Washio), Kenshirô'southward beloved interest.

Interesting...

I thought this film was pretty good. Although, I practice agree that the anime is better. I think the actors really did well for their parts. It's a lot different though from the anime. I recommend picking it upwards when yous've got the chance. Watch it at night, information technology sets the mood better.

Good but not as good as the Manga.

This movie isn't bad. Very loftier production values, good photographic camera angles, good fix/costumes, absurd special effects and visual mode as well as decent acting. To be honest I was quite surprised to see this level of quality for a direct to video release.

It tries to be faithful to the original manga without completely ripping it off which was great and presented something which was familiar, still original.

One negative comment is that the american film makers still don't really know how to shoot martial arts fight scenes. Gary daniels has skills that are far ameliorate than what the motion picture showcases.( but watch jackie chan's city hunter)

Overall I gave it a vii/ten.

In his fists lies the destiny of the World... In his soul is the need for cataclysmic revenge. Average Sci-Fi martial arts adaptation of the Japanese anime.

Warning: Spoilers

Fist of the North Star starts with a lengthy, & boring, narration by a guy named Ryuken (Malcolm McDowell). The opening shot is of a desolate mail service-apocalyptic earth with what were once our cities only are at present crumbling ruins, a lawless earth where acid rain falls from the sky & the strong casualty on the weak. Ryuken talks of a school of martial arts named the Southern Cross, the flag of the Southern Cantankerous is at present the fearful symbol of a new guild. The North Star is the last opposing school, basically the Southern Cross is evil & the N Star is good. The Southern Cantankerous Master, Lord Shin (Costas Mandylor) executes the Master of the Northward Star, Ryuken. Lord Shin too tires to kill Ryuken's son, Kenshiro (Gary Daniels). Lord Shin leaves Kenshiro for dead in the wastelands & takes his lover Julia (Isako Washio) every bit his own to Southern Cross Metropolis which he rules. All the same, Kenshiro is not expressionless & sets about finding Lord Shin & putting a cease to his evil plans to 'liberate the wastelands' by whatsoever ways necessary. About 200 miles Northward of Southern Cross City is a small town chosen Paradise Valley where they protect their most precious article, water. Lord Shin wants this water & sends his plain-featured henchmen & their gangs out to destroy Paradise Valley & take the water atomic number 82 by head bad guy known as the Jackal (Chris Penn). Kenshiro runs into a teenager named Bat (Dante Basco) & a young blind girl named Lynn (Nalona Herron) who he magically cures. Since they both have a common problem in the shape of Lord Shin & his men they sort of bring together forces to defeat him, afterward some silly plot devices proceed throwing them together. I guess that's just nigh it, Kenshiro somewhen meets upwardly with Lord Shin & after some personal malaise over Shin kidnapping Julia & murdering his Male parent they have a fight & that'southward about that.

Co-written & directed past by Tony Randel based on the Japanese comic & anime Hokuto No Ken by Buronson & Tetsuo Hara I idea this live-action version of Fist of the Due north Star had a lot potential which it ultimately didn't evangelize. The script past Randel & Peter Atkins ditches the over-the-top violence & comic book feel. The film seems to accept itself a little also seriously & every bit a result ends up existence a chip dull. There are a couple of scenes which try to recreate the comic book feel similar when Kenshiro kicks someones face up & dislocates his jaw to an astonishing extent or in the same sequence where he punches someone in the back & a big bulge appears on their chest from the force. Unfortunately these are about the only scenes worth mentioning in this regard every bit the balance of the fights are short, dull, unimaginative & few & far between. Towards the end Kenshiro has to fight lots of Lord Shin's guards, he literally punches or kicks them one time & they're defeated, Kenshiro'southward climactic fight with Lord Shin was also a let downward. Fist of the North Star really needed lots more claret, gore, violence & energy in it'south disappointing fight scenes. Having said that the fights are reasonably well choreographed & aren't whatever worse than whatsoever other low budget martial arts flick. The story is simple to say the least, large chunks of it are annoyingly told in monologues & flashbacks by various characters. The characters were annoying thinly sketched bland stereotypes. Information technology besides could take done with losing a few minutes worth of running time equally information technology drags a piffling in places. The cast features some familiar faces, Malcolm McDowell is in it for well-nigh three minutes maximum even though he gets near height-billing in the credits, Chris Penn makes for a sleazy bad guy & is criminally wasted throughout, Costas Mandylor didn't convince me equally the most evil homo on Earth, Clint Howard makes an appearance as Stalin i of Lord Shin'southward henchmen, Melvin Van Peebles was here somewhere only I don't know who he played & as for leading homo Gary Daniels he is virtually every bit wooden & unconvincing as I expected. The music by Christopher L. Rock is totally inappropriate equally it's very quiet & orchestral, this picture show needed an upbeat fast score to compliment the action scenes & at to the lowest degree effort to get the blood pumping a lilliputian. The one thing where Fist of the North Star gains a few points is it'south production values & design, information technology's actually rather impressive. The wastelands, Paradise Valley & Southern Cross City all look very disarming considering the budget every bit do the costumes & the overall look of Fist of the North Star. There isn't much claret or gore & disappointingly non a single on screen exploding caput even though Chris Penn's head well-nigh explodes but unfortunately the scene cuts abroad but at the vital moment, there is a cool looking zombie though who'southward in it for a couple of minutes & a few blood spraying wounds. Overall Fist of the Nortrh Star is a reasonable film, there'south nothing greatly incorrect with it as information technology's generally well made & tells it's story competently plenty simply I tin't help but experience disappointed at what it could have been had information technology been made by a stronger director who had the guts to go with what made the original Japanese comic so skillful. Average at best, worth watching if y'all've got cypher amend to do.

lame adaptation....lame otherwise too.

Warning: Spoilers

This was a pretty lame try to stay faithful to the original if you enquire me (if that is fifty-fifty what they were going for); whoever said information technology was loyal to it's source doesn't know what they are talking about. Mind you, the drawing movie was quite a hash up itself compared to the series (or comic!) and can exist hard to follow if you don't already know the story, and so if that'south all they decided to become on then you can't really blame them likewise much. Compared to the original story, though, I have to say that the characters were all weak; the bad thug guys don't look hateful enough (merely they sure were ugly plenty!); the master characters are not tough (ahem,super- homo?) enough; the kung fu is non ridiculous (or, oxymoronically, believable) enough; Julia is not beautiful enough and to top it off, I'd have to say that Kenshirou's master Ryuuken is not really "zen" (or bald) enough either (and what's with that weird zombie scene?!). All that said and adaptation-shmadaptation aside......the fight scenes still sucked, the directing was bad, and the acting worse... I'one thousand reeaaally sad, but you lot should probably but watch something else!!

This is only another post-apocalyptic slog.

Warning: Spoilers

In a postal service-apocalyptic world (aren't they all), a sinister organization known as the Southern Cross wants to dominion the wastelands. The forces of evil are represented by Lord Shin (Mandylor) and the baddie Jackal (Penn). A alone hero stands upwardly for himself and the rights of others, a man named Kenshiro (Daniels). His "Fist of the N Star" stands in opposition to the Southern Cross. From here on out it's a fairly straightforward battle of good vs. evil with plenty of familiar faces forth the way, from Melvin Van Peebles to Lockdown's (1990) Chris DeRose, among many others. Volition Kenshiro beat the baddies? Fist of the N Star was originally a Japanese animation, or Manga. Someone apparently idea a Direct-To-Video live-action remake was exactly what the world needed. They even used American and British stars, just didn't change their original Japanese names. Hence credits like "And Malcolm McDowell as Ryuken". You don't meet that one every day. So Gary Daniels plays a guy named Kenshiro, etc. Just the real problem with this motion-picture show is that it is a mishmash of pointless, plot less gobbledygook. Y'all don't really care too much about whatever of the characters, and, largely because of the closed-in sets, the whole movie has a claustrophobic and stagey vibe which doesn't practise anyone any favors.

Top fan favorite Gary Daniels appears to be doing his accented best, simply information technology'south similar he's trudging through syrup. It's a total post-apocalyptic slog, and without whatever bright spots, such as Steele Frontier's (1995) Chickenboy. It'southward ground that's been well-trod in the by. Downtown Julie Brownish can't Wubba Wubba her way out of this 1. While it's trying to be just like the anime version, with a agglomeration of wacky, cartoonish effects, the only time the picture show actually shines is in the straight-upwards Martial Arts fights. And most of the actually good ones don't come up until the end of the movie. And past that time, the viewer is saying, in frustration, "Where were these before?!??" This led us to the conclusion that if Isaac Florentine directed this movie, it would accept been similar, simply a lot better.

Every bit nosotros've discussed before on this site, when information technology comes to film-watching, there is a definite difference betwixt watching a picture show and waiting for a picture show to be over. It's an important distinction, and because of the rampant Alone TIGER EFFECT, and the fact that at the finish of the day this is but another post-apocalyptic slog, nosotros cannot recommend Fist of the North Star. Nosotros still dearest Gary Daniels and all, but this is not i of his best projects, in our stance.

Like an awkward grade schoolhouse stage play

If you lot always desire to see a pic production embarrass themselves royally, check out Fist Of The N Star, a misguided, thoroughly bad-mannered live action version of some obscure Japanese manga series. It'south ane of those ones that painfully doesn't translate into the realm of live activity though, like that baroque Super Mario movie they made. Total of notable graphic symbol actors, packed with steampunk-esque special furnishings, it could have worked with a different story, but the theatrical intensity and specific vibe of oriental pop civilisation just doesn't come to life well on the North American big screen. Information technology's as well at war with itself tonally: at that place's a lite, PG Power Rangers feel in some places, just many scenes take graphic violence that pushes a hard R rating into the deep finish, which makes for a jarring experience. Gary Daniels stars as Kenshiro, a lone warrior out to become Lord Shin (Costas Mandylor nether one mess of a mullet), a brutal warlord who murdered his male parent, briefly played by Malcolm McDowell. McDowell pulls a classic McDowell move, showing up in the flesh for nearly 30 seconds earlier disappearing and lazily lending his iconic vocalism to a talking skeleton version of his character later in the picture show. Don't ask me to recall more of the plot than that because it would involve a rewatch, and own't nobody got time for that. Chris Penn is fun every bit Jackal, an angry vagabond with a giant potato head and the psychotic atmosphere to match. Watch for Dante 'Rufio' Basco, Downtown Julie Chocolate-brown, Clint Howard, Mario Van Peebles and more in as ridiculous getups. The sole thing I tin recommend hither is the production pattern, lifted straight from some striking post apocalyptic video game, it makes somewhat of an impression. The balance lands with a jumbo thud and just sits there, doing not much of anything.

Bad modest upkeep action film

Fist of the North Star is one of your typical, small upkeep action flicks which seem to announced from no where without whatsoever specific reason. I really liked information technology during the first couple of minutes during the time, when the chief graphic symbol, Kenshiro (Gary Daniels) hadn't opened his mouth yet, but afterward he spoke and revealed, that likewise the looks he hadn't slightest chip of acting talent I speedily stopped liking information technology.

My favourite scene of the moving picture is when a Finnish ex-WWF wrestler and a (yes lamentable only truthful) member of parliament Tony Halme gets the smirk kicked out of his confront. Literally. Small scene, I know, but I found information technology hilarious.

FOTNS is full waste of Malcolm McDowell's abilities, and as such equally information technology is, it tin just exist seen as a curiosity for his fans. Maybe the fans of original graphical novel will become something else out of this film.

honey oh dear

I stayed upwardly to watch this film thinking it was the incredible 1980's Japanese manga movie 'Hokuto no ken'. Little did I know in that location was a farcical 1990's depression budget Hollywood version, and this indeed was information technology. This is surely the gayest film of all time, particularly in the last battle scene, in which one of the chief protagonists is wearing a woman's blouse. It is all bronzed, shiny flesh and rippling muscles and enough of 'smell the fart' interim. As I recall, the plot of the original version was quite hard to follow, just for this version information technology seems to take pretty much been given up on altogether. The best thing about this film is that information technology stars Downtown Julie Brown, who has the coolest name in showbiz.

Fizzle of the Northward Star

Ok... Hither'south the only way to depict this movie: "auuggghhh". When I saw this motion-picture show was on, I almost turned the channel, I didn't want to run across the Anime ruined...but then I decided to simply sit dorsum and hope for the mediocre. And that'southward Near what I got.

I have a few issues with this movie:

1. Why are ninety% the guys with Japanese names British?

2. Why do the two "Masters" keep using the same moves?

iii. Why tin can't Chris Penn e'er play someone who ISN'T Psycho?

four. Why does Malcom Macdowell Always evidence upwards in these pictures?

five. I never thought I'd see a motion picture that had fight scenes that made American Ninja expect like a Jackie Chan Flick.

Now, that's not to say that this picture doesn't have it'south good points. There ARE actually a few things going for information technology. Kickoff of all, there is a High production value at work hither. Every shot seems framed well, and the sets and costumes are extremely well done. Also, the score is quite complimentary (if non seeming ripped off at times). Acid pelting. No, really, TRULY acid rain.

Sadly, it's the Acid rain that says it the best. *fizzle*

A disappointment

First of all, I have to say to all of you that I haven't seen the anime. And so if you lot're looking for a review that compares this with the anime, then just skip this. This motion picture came as a disappointment to me. I could hands encounter that this moving-picture show is influenced by Japanese cartoons. The main reason for that, is that the pic is really violent, bloody and barbarous. The fights are really hardcore. Unfortunately, they are non very expert. Daniels isn't anywhere about his best in this movie. The movie makes him act more he usually does, and that'southward a failure since he can't act. It's the fighting that makes him so smashing, and when the fight scenes didn't evangelize, there was and then no promise for this movie. --An unintentional comedy because of a stupid story and lame characters.--

This flick is ALREADY DEAD from the moment it got green lit

I don't know what kind of thought going through the managing director Tony Randel and the writter brain when they decided to turn the ultra-trigger-happy manga Fist of the North Star into live-action form when they got no assurance to pull off a true-blue movie that lives upwardly to the over the top and gory status of the manga considering this so-chosen Fist of the Northward Star (1995) is a straight-up insulted to the fan of the series in every manner possible. The story and characters are so dumb downwards to a bespeak that the simply thing that connects this picture show to the source material is the name of the characters and trust me when I say the first vol is the easiest 1 to adapt. Gary Daniels as Kenshiro and Costas Mandylor as Shin are actually not a bad choice in my opinion when they got both the expect and the talent to pull off the character but because the script is so bad information technology ends up ruined all the redeeming qualities left in the moving-picture show. Hokuto Shin-ken the famous deadly martial fine art that hit the vital points of the homo torso to destroy it from the inside utilize by Kenshiro look like your typical martial art movie fight and I know that you tin't accept head explode scene subsequently head explode scene every time Kenshiro affect his opponent but to see only two and both been cut-away before the explosion is very frustrating, to be honest. Wach Story of Ricky (1991) if you desire to see how a truthful ultra-violent manga adaptation live-action movie works

Hugely underrated

As with any movie accommodation based upon whatever much cherished cartoon (or for those choosing to be pernickety in this instance, anime) and/or comic book, ane affair is guaranteed and that is a subsequent precipitous carve up betwixt those fans who volition embrace the new envisioning and those of a more than purist persuasion who will generally loath it. Certainly, as a huge fan of the original animated series (and the subsequent animated movie) that this is inspired past I am initially distressing to written report that this isn't an entirely faithful adaption of its source material......in fact, quite far from information technology.......bad news in that location then. Having said this even so, what we do have is an entirely admirable and indeed laudable attempt nonetheless for a great number of reasons.

For a first, production values are absolutely peak notch with some truly wonderful set designs, some cracking (and joyously gory!) special fx and a tremendous musical score. The combination of same aspects lends the picture a truly epic experience - far, far greater than one could conceivably imagine given the relatively small budget this was made with.

And then to must I commend the casting; Gary Daniels especially has never looked ameliorate (and his moves have never looked finer) in the role of Kenshiro (even if perhaps he is far too softly spoken in the role). Costas Mandaylor gives a suitably cold performance as Shin and despite no sometime martial arts preparation looks rather good (thank you to the wonderful fight choreography of Winston Omega). Christopher Penn to is clearly having a ball with his character and hogs all the best lines in the film including such gems as, 'Information technology's not easy being sleazy.'

As said previously, this is anything only a faithful adaptation of the anime however if one can overlook this fact and judge it on its own merits so information technology is a hugely entertaining endeavour with much going for it. My advice....give it a chance and you may well be (as I was) very pleasantly surprised.

Was This Ever A HELLRAISER Sequel ?

Director of FIST OF THE Northward STAR Tony Randel and screenwriter Peter Atkins were the two men who made HELLBOUND:HELLRAISER 2 . They were also the two men responsible for making that movie an incoherent mess , a skilful description of this picture show too since I had no idea what this movie was supposed to be almost or indeed where the plot was going and that was despite much vocalism over exposition . After seeing the movie I can't explain what on world it is about

I do have a sort of sneaky suspicion that Peter Atkins may have originally written FIST OF THE Due north STAR as a HELLRAISER sequel . I tin can merely imagine that there's been sort of disaster ( I'k not talking about the disaster that is this script ) where mankind has finally been defeated by the Cenobites and information technology'south up to a mystical hero to face up Pinhead and save the wretched survivors of humanity from his evil clutches . That might accept been a good plot , even if it wasn't it nevertheless would have been a plot of some description , at that place's no evidence that I tin can see that this movie has a plot

Every bit a lot of other people on this page I noticed this pile of crap was marketed every bit " A martial arts action story " so correct abroad I was expecting a Chuck Norris or Steven Segal type plot of people getting punched on the nose and falling down is a very violent way but not even my own low expectations prepared me for the unconvincing style of the fights where a whole torso changes shape due to the impact of the punch , and of course a bad guy with a gun watches his fellows getting killed in unarmed combat and never thinks of shooting the expert guy . I also couldn't assist noticing that despite being well buffed the hero is in some dire need of acting lessons , everytime he is chosen to give a pained expression information technology looks similar he'due south having an orgasm

I would have given FIST OF THE NORTH STAR one out of ten but I awarded it an extra point because of the ironic dialogue such equally when Malcolm Mcdowell says " I call up before my body died " I shouted out " I think earlier your career died " and the scene where Chris Penn " shouts " let's kill someone " I shouted back " Permit's start with the producer , the director , the screenwriter ... " Oh and there'southward a scene where a character says " You're already expressionless " which led me to believe information technology's a line stolen from HELLBOUND reinforcing my suspicion that this was a HELLRAISER sequel at one betoken

An embarrassment for all

Even those who don't like the blithe version will concur that it's better than this live-activeness version! Don't exist fooled by Malcolm McDowell'southward proper noun - he only appears for about three minutes! (In fact, he'due south done a lot of these brief appearances in movies lately.) Acting is poor, and the martial arts scenes aren't exciting. One fight scene is incredibly awful; the director keeps the camera in the same place for 95% of the time of this several minute fight! You likewise have to wonder why almost all of the cast is western, seeing every bit this story originally had Asian characters, and that the picture was a U.South./Japan co-production. Did the Japanese side accept lilliputian control. The only skillful thing virtually this is the sets, which are very impressive at times. Though their full effect is somewhat spoiled past the fact that some sets, supposedly outside, are obviously placed inside a studio.

A Actually Bad Adapation Of A Archetype Anime

Offset of all I would like to betoken out the many errors of this Alive Action Product of Fist Of The Due north Star: Hokuto Shinken - The Holly Fist Of The North Star is non the martial art practiced by Shin. It is the martial art proficient by the Fist Of The North Star Kenshiro.

I don't know if it was the writers fault for not watching the anime or reading the manga novels for research when writing the script. Even so they did it the messed up the most important aspect of the storyline in the Fist Of The North Star story.

Besides what did they do to Kenshiro, what happen to his famous "ATATATATATATATATATATATATAT AH!" Hokuto Hyakuratu Ken (Hundred Cracked Fist Of The North Star) Technique, which he uses in nearly every anime episode and manga novel.

Overall A Very Poor Production!!

Dies quickly

Alarm: Spoilers

Take Malcolm McDowell who dies quickly, rather like the plot of this picture. He is the but star in the movie. I did recognise Chris Penn merely I don't know what I've seen him in before, possibly Reservoir Dogs. Wrestling fans may recognise a brief appearance by Leon White besides known as WCW and WWE Superstar Big Van Vader. His fight scene is most likely the best and well organised fight in the whole film.

This is a manga comic or anime moving-picture show that has been made into live action and information technology was obviously a really bad thought.

No script, bad story, really bad acting and some really bad fighting scenes. I really wish I hadn't bothered watching information technology.

Smashing epic movie!Gary Daniels puts on a great pb graphic symbol!

This is one of the most coolest and exciting films I have always seen! The acting is very good, fights are peachy, the music is superb, and well, I can't say enough of Fist of the North Star!Gary Daniels is not bad in this epic picture. He actually congenital his body upward really well and I e'er thought his character resembled former WCW wrestler Scotty Riggs or by the proper name he went in ECW every bit Scotty Antwon.Speaking of wrestlers Former WCW champion and WWF(which is at present WWE) star Vader appeared in a large scene and was excellent! His name in the credits was Leon "Vader" White. Also in Fist of the N Star is some other sometime WWF wrestler Ludvig Borga. In the credits his proper name was his real name,Tony Halme. He wasn't given a bigger role similar Vader just information technology was absurd to know he was in that location! There are many other notable cast members such as Malcom McDowell which his vocalization, acting and presence fabricated this film even more than epic in My stance.Costas Mandylor put on a very good performance.Chris Penn was good.Clint Howard and Nils Allen Stewart were adept too. This is one of My favorite films and I feel Gary Daniels all-time. To bad his films lately hasn't been good as the Fist of the North Star.In the movie he really made ME feel that he was a super hero and I loved the cloudy skies!Check this 1 out today considering I don't think yous'll be disappointed!
